【香港人STAFF/Veronica】 Experiencing Setouchi Art Festival

Part of my reason I am staying in Takamatsu is the Setouchi Art Festival and this time I want to share some of my journeys during the festival. I visited Shamijima with my friend during Spring session, we stayed near Sakaide station for the night and took the shuttle bus to Shamijima in the morning.

Part of my reason I am staying in Takamatsu is the Setouchi Art Festival and this time I want to share some of my journeys during the festival. I visited Shamijima with my friend during Spring session, we stayed near Sakaide station for the night and took the shuttle bus to Shamijima in the morning.

The artworks in Shamijima are interesting and they welcomes visitors to interact with them. Oiwa Island 2 is an illustration painted on an air dome, depicting the scenery of Setouchi, you can literally get inside the painting and I think this is really an innovative way for appreciating artworks.

Another artwork that I love very much is the Stories of 12 Islands:Animation of Sea Wanderings. I am familiar with flip books as I studied animation in university, but this is the first time I tried to view flip books on Kinora, an antique animation device. Each of the flip book is describing an island, showing the scenery and characteristics of the island combining with the imagination of the artist.

I also visited Oshima while volunteering in Koebi Tai. I was in charge of the kitchen in cafe SHIYORU for one day, serving coffee, tea and cakes.

My partner on that day was a cute high school girl. We talked about our favorite anime, books, dramas, also future dreams during the time we were waiting for customers coming to the cafe. We became good friends and it was sad to say goodbye when the time of Koebi Tai was over. We promised each other to meet again and go try some delicious udon together in Takamatsu !
